I absolutely LOVE Xinjiang food, reminds me of North Indian food back home. Xinjiang dishes specialise in lamb – my favourite meat category. In People’s Square, there is a branch of this chain called Yershari. This is a massive mega restaurant in terms of space.
Apparently they have performances on certain days (we saw the dancefloor/ stage). The wait time can range from 20 mins to an hour, maybe more, BUT it’s all worth it. Best way to eat a ton and not feel the hole in your pocket is to go with a bunch of friends. We were four of us, ate a LOT, and still ended up spending about RMB 190 per head. The food is delicious, the best I’ve had (I’ve been to two other local Xinjiang joints in Shanghai). The menu is lovely, with accurately depicted dishes.
Try their hot milk tea – I hate milk, but I loved this. Maybe it was camel milk. To know ALL their locations, I have provided a photo of the addresses across Shanghai to help. I’d totally recommend this to people visiting the city. Planning my second trip there soon.
